It may be hard for some fans to fathom that a pro team from New York could work hand-in-hand with a pro team from Dallas.

But that’s exactly the situation at Legends Hospitality Management, a company that provides hospitality, merchandising and premium ticketing services, which was founded in 2008 and is jointly owned by the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, along with Goldman Sachs and CIC Partners.

Legends Management has undergone a change of top leadership, naming veteran sports, media and entertainment executive and entrepreneur Dave Checketts as chairman and CEO. Checketts succeeds Michael Rawlings, who recently was elected the mayor of Dallas.

In addition, Checketts’ private equity fund, Checketts Partners Investment Fund, has become an equity partner Legends Management following its acquisition of CIC Partners’ interest in Legends.

Checketts’ resume includes president and GM of the Utah Jazz, president of the New York Knicks, president and CEO of Madison Square Garden. chairman of the St. Louis Blues and founder of SCP Worldwide, which owns among other entities MLS franchise Real Salt Lake and ESPN 700 Sports radio station in Salt Lake City.

“I have always looked to associate myself with strong brands and successful businesses,” Checketts, who will be based in New York, said in a statement. “This is no different.  In fact, between Goldman Sachs, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees, I’m sure you cannot get any better.  Additionally, the ability for my Fund to join with Legends on future acquisitions provides us with the capital that will enable us to look to grow this company significantly.”

According to Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, “Mike Rawlings did an outstanding job directing the creation of this partnership, and now we are well positioned to capitalize on the growth opportunities available to us in the future with the experience and expertise of Dave Checketts. Dave has a terrific track record of success in the business of sports and entertainment, and is one of the most respected entrepreneurial minds in the industry.”
