New General Manager Reggie McKenzie came in and fired Hue Jackson, and many expected Winston Moss, of the Green Bay Packers staff and with ties to McKenzie, to be the target. However, McKenzie has instead settled on 39-year old Dennis Allen, according to Adam Schefter. Allen, who was a first time defensive coordinator for Denver this season, helped turn the Broncos unit around with a little help from rookie Von Miller.

Bill Williamson likes the move, calling it a high risk, high reward move that would make Al Davis proud. Williamson also includes this nugget, which I hadn’t realized–Oakland has not hired a head coach with a defensive background since John Madden was hired in 1969.

The Oakland hiring now leaves only Tampa Bay, who missed out on Chip Kelly and has interviewed a cast of characters, and Indianapolis, where rumors of Jim Tressel flew, and then subsided, earlier today.
