Ballin’: Jimmer Isn’t the Rookie on the Kings Who is Playing Really Well
NBA, Video February 22nd. 2012, 10:35amMiami 120, Sacramento 108: While you’re watching Linsanity, the Heat are quietly racking up the wins. That’s seven in a row. They’re 26-7 at the halfway mark. D Wade scored 30, none nicer than converting this alley-oop from LeBron. DeMarcus Cousins only shot 3-of-13, but he did produce this wildly athletic play in the open court.
Forgot to mention: Banks are open late night in South Beach for Tyreke Evans. Rookie update: Isaiah Thomas scored 24 points, including 20 points and five three-pointers in the third quarter. Jimmer Fredette didn’t play as Keith Smart tightens the rotation.
New Orleans 108, Indiana 117, OT: Enjoy Paul George (20 points, six rebounds, six assists) in the dunk contest.
Philadelphia 76, Memphis 89: Knicks fans will be thrilled with this loss. The 76ers have struggled in the last week – mostly offensively; the frontcourt is a mess – and were soundly beaten by the Grizzlies, who managed to improve to 19-15 and should be getting Zach Randolph back soon. Might be a nice time to buy Memphis stock low. The 76ers attempted just eight free throws; Rudy Gay took nine.
Portland 137, San Antonio 97: The Blazers ended the Spurs’ 11-game winning streak. To show how much Pop cares about winning streaks … he sat Tony Parker and Tim Duncan because the Spurs play three games in four nights. San Antonio started rookie Cory Joseph, rookie Kawhi Leonard, Danny Green, DeJuan Blair and Richard Jefferson. Portland sank 15 three-pointers and had seven guys score in double figures.
Detroit 100, Cleveland 101: The hot Pistons were about to lock up their fourth win in a row when Kyrie Irving happened. The rookie point guard scored 17 points in the fourth quarter as the Cavs erased a 17-point deficit to stun Detroit. Irving scored 25 and Antwan Jamison added 32 to get Cleveland to 13-17. The loss will overshadow another strong effort from Detroit rookie point guard Brandon Knight, who scored 24 points. Looks like he and Greg Monroe could be a nice tandem to build around.

Isaiah Thomas being the last pick of the entire draft is ridiculous. Too many teams drafting Euros that they have no intention of ever signing.

So were there a bunch of bannings or something?
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:40 AM
The Sixers do seem to struggle without Elton Brand and who the hell thought that Spencer Hawes would be so important to this team?
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:41 AM
Sixers were brutal during crunchtime in the 4th. I think they didnt score for about 8 min or so… game was out of reach by the time they made some garbage buckets. Lots of 1 on 1 bullshit. They keep looking more and more like a 6-7 seed.

Maybe people went out last night and called out sick to work? Does seem awful quiet.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:42 AM
Jimmer seems to be working out splendidly for the Kings.

Adam Morrison 2.0?
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:44 AM
I think MLJ has more commenting activity.

Lin fatigue.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:44 AM
Its only been quiet to the people more concerned with a team that probably wont lin 2 playoff games.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:45 AM
No matter who they were resting it is still impressive to give up 137 in regulation.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:47 AM
I just can’t quit you TBL. You’re the best.

I see what you did there!

Kyrie is putting a wrench in Cleveland’s rebuilding plans. Team is too good to get Anthony Davis or one of the other top guys.

CRM’s commenting privileges are on suspension for flashing Duffy at yesterday’s meeting. It was in the spirit of Fat Tuesday, but still somewhat tasteless.

Good news for them is that this is pretty deep draft. I think someone like Brad Beal would pair nicely with Kyrie in the backcourt and still might be available later in the lottery. He reminds me alot of Eric Gordon.

Maybe the ping pong balls will just turn up beautifully for your team again.

Hockey elsewhere. Waiting for baseball post. Got to work too late to really take advantage of the JetBlue Red Sox post.
February 22nd, 2012 at 10:56 AM
This. Kyrie has proved his worth. He now needs to go the way of Varejao and break his left wrist. Nothing remotely career threatening, but something that removes him from the squad for 6-8 weeks.
Then, a trade of Antawn spurs even more losses.
These are things that I want to happen.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:00 AM
I like Beal, and he’s a nice player. But for a franchise like Cleveland, this is probably their last shot to get a game changer. Free agency is out of the question.
Starting next year, the Cavs will be a fringe playoff-7th-8th seed and away from the top 3 for good.

So were there a bunch of bannings or something?
Trying to get rid of some vodka.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Who would you like them to go after in the draft?
I agree for the most part with you and Wally re losing for the greater good. I think once they deal sessions and twan the losses will naturally start to pile up. It has been nice watching a semi-competitive team this season.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:12 AM
Suprised to see that Warriors didn’t make Ballin’ again. Ever since TBL claimed they’d make a run at .500, they’ve suspiciously been left out of the mix. And that’s taking into account that they won last night to improve to 12-17!
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:20 AM
While you’re watching Linsanity
No I wasn’t.
New Orleans 108, Indiana 117, OT
Another tough fight, another loss. The Hornets are leading the league in close games they lose (or it feels like).
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:21 AM
How is Jan Vessley not in the dunk contest? That dude was drafted based off dunk highlights right…
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:23 AM
You may have spent last night watching a replay buddy.

Hope not. I’ve dreams of seeing Davis and Gordon in NOLA Mardi Gras unis.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:28 AM
They’ve played well. GSW have probably been snakebit more. I saw a stat that they had lost 9 games where they were within a point with 90 seconds to go.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:30 AM
Ha my bad I should of said last game. Well, explains why they’re not in Ballin’, but doesn’t explain why anyone would ever believe they’re not going to be the exact same team as they are every fucking year.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:31 AM
Are there any twin brothers in this years draft? I don’t know how else Phoenix will determine who to take in the 10-13 range.
to be fair Kieff is working out.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:34 AM
Not twins, but you can probably grab one of the Plumlees or Zellers.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:38 AM
One other thing I am wondering – is Jimmer no longer on the all-Rookie team?
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:42 AM
Oh good. Are any of them white, big and unathletic? Because that one will be the winner.
February 22nd, 2012 at 11:45 AM

Ok, so you want the Tyler Zeller Panini with a side of mayo then.

JT – Warriors got their own post yesterday (Chappelle).
And as YYSA said, you watched a replay. They were off last night.

Why is Jeremy Lin featured in the adidas ad below? He’s a Nike man. Also, why is Kanye West (or Kayne West as it’s written in the article) also featured, I believe he’s a Nike dude as well, seeing as he’s in the Kobe commercial and designs shoes for them. Odd.
