Colorado Mesa University running back Shane Williams was arrested on multiple charges, stemming from the suspected assault of a lesbian woman, Chelsea Gallagher, outside a Grand Junction Bar. Williams was among a group of men who had been hitting on Gallagher inside the bar. The men reportedly verbally assaulted Gallagher and her girlfriend as they left, and a resulting altercation turned physical.

From KREX TV:

Witnesses say Ashley and one of the men started to physically fight, and when Gallagher tried to step in to stop it, she says, Williams got involved. “He took it upon himself to get me away, I guess. I don’t know what he thought it was going to do. My roommate said that he picked me up from the waist and slammed me onto the ground,” said Gallagher.

Gallagher suffered a fractured skull, hearing loss and a black eye.

Besides the second-degree assault charge, Williams, 20, was also cited for using a fake ID and possessing alcohol as a minor. He was listed as a redshirt freshman running back on the 2011 roster. He does not appear on the Mavericks’ roster for 2012.
