Tiger Woods Responds to Sergio Garcia: "Not real surprising that he's complaining about something"

It all started on Saturday afternoon when Sergio Garcia hit a disappointing shot on the second hole. During the shot, Tiger had apparently reached into his bag for a 5-wood, causing the gallery to go nuts. Naturally, Garcia blamed his poor shot on the crowd noise and, of course, Tiger. After being alerted of Garcia’s complaint, Tiger fired back.

“Well, the marshals, they told me he already hit,” Woods said. “So I pulled a club and was getting ready to play my shot, and then I hear his comments afterwards and not real surprising that he’s complaining about something.”

Tiger’s got a point. It wouldn’t be a golf tournament without a complaining Sergio Garcia, who was quick for offer up a great retort to Tiger’s dig:

“That’s fine. At least I’m true to myself. I know what I’m doing and he can do whatever he wants.”

Sounds like someone’s a little jealous. Makes sense, considering Garcia’s storied inability to win a major. He later added another nugget to the fun, telling the Golf Channel the following:

“I’m not going to lie. He’s not my favorite guy to play with. He’s not the nicest guy on tour. It’s good for both of us. We don’t enjoy each others company. You don’t have to be a rocket engineer to figure that out.”

Awesome. The candor being displayed by both sides here is a refreshing change for golf. I fully expect more barbs to follow, especially since they’re both prominently in the mix on the leaderboard.

Tiger last won the Players Championship in 2001. His buddy Sergio took it in 2008.
