Tavon Austin Has "Cousins" in Baltimore Counting on His Bank Account Before He Even Has a Rookie Contract
By Jason McIntyre
Also happy? Tavon Austin’s family and people who claim to be his family. People on the periphery are already hitting him up for cash, even though he hasn’t signed a rookie contract yet.
"“Everybody expects a lot of things from you as far as money. Everybody wants to be around you. My phone doesn’t stop ringing now. It feels like they’re counting my bank account now. So that’s probably the hardest thing for me right now, just people. “I’ve got a lot of cousins now. The whole (city of) Baltimore is my cousin now. We’re going to just try to keep focused and let my mother and all of them handle it.”"
Austin figures to ink a 4-year deal worth over $12 million pretty soon and based on what the #8 pick usually receives, about $7 million of that should be guaranteed. His first order of business will be to get his mom and grandmother out of dangerous Baltimore – and away from the leeches looking for a handout. Hopefully, Austin’s agent or the Rams front office will mention names like Terrell Owens and Vince Young and prevent the rookie from future financial ruin. [via St. Louis Rams]
