Tony Allen Nominated for an Oscar After This Flop of the Century Against the Spurs [Video & GIF]
By Jason McIntyre
Tony Allen, you’ve done it. The NBA went most of the season without an egregious, embarrassing flop in Year One of the Flop Rules, but with your Grizzlies desperate for a miracle, you got them one by acting your way to this flagrant call late in the 4th quarter.
You didn’t hit your head. Your arm was fine. Writhing around under the basket in pain? You looked like a wrestler feigning injury after getting hit in the head with a chair.
Of course the gambit worked, the referees fell for it, and you made both free throws. Then Mike Conley sent the game into overtime a few seconds later.
Fortunately, San Antonio was able to regroup – way to choke away a 13-point lead in the 4th! – and win, 93-89. The Spurs lead the series 2-0.
The Spurs are probably going to have to figure out how to play DeJuan Blair and collect some defensive rebounds on the road – Memphis annihilated them on the offensive glass, 19-4. Zach Randolph, frustrated and ineffective for the first six quarters of the series, was able to take 18 rebounds, but he shot terrible from the foul line (3-of-8).
Tony Allen shouldn’t get another call the rest of this series.
