Eddie Johnson Scored a 'Peach' of a Goal vs. Panama [Video]
By Mike Cardillo
Oh that is nice Eddie Johnson. Very, very nice. And who knew Geoff Cameron had that passing touch?
Johnson’s second-half goal helped the U.S. national team beat Panama 2-0 tonight in Seattle. All-and-all, a great night for the Americans, who move atop the CONCACAF Hexagonal at the halfway point. Stuart Holden even made his first appearance in a U.S. shirt in a long time.
It’s nice to see Johnson, who went through hell and back to work his way back into the national team picture, and score again. About a year ago it seemed clear the one-time “Grown Ass Man” would be another over-hyped, non-productive American soccer player. Johnson returned to MLS after failing to make an impact in Europe. He’s done enough to impress Jurgen Klinsmann. Johnson, known primary as an out-and-out striker in his younger days, started in place of the suspended Graham Zusi on the wide right.
Regardless, who knew Johnson was capable of scoring a goal as picture-perfect as that one? ESPN’s Ian Darke called it a ‘peach’ of a pass from Cameron to see it up. Can’t argue with that assessment.
