Stuart Holden Scored His First Goal for the USMNT Since 2009 Tuesday Night vs. Belize [Video]

Welcome back Stuart Holden. The American midfielder scored Tuesday night in the second half of the USMNT’s 6-1 rout of Belize in the Gold Cup at Portland’s Jeld-Wen Field. Most times a goal in a blowout against an over-matched opponent fielding mostly semi-pro players doesn’t hold much significance.

However, it was Holden’s first international goal since July 11, 2009. Between that goal vs. Haiti (which was quite spectacular) and Tuesday night Holden had suffered a pair of leg injuries that kept him on the sidelines for long stretches. The goal should only increase the rumbles across the U.S. fanbase that Holden should be in the starting XI for Jurgen Klinsmann when the full National Team reconvenes for World Cup qualifiers in September.

Also, Chris Wondolowski scored a first-half hat trick for the Americans. Landon Donovan scored and added his 50th and 51st career international assists.
