Mark May Rips Johnny Manziel, But Clearly Mark May Forgot About His Arrest at Pitt & Two DWIs in NFL
By Jason McIntyre
Mark May, an ESPN college football analyst, has had just about enough of Johnny Manziel’s off-field antics. Cavorting with a model, getting a parking ticket, flying to high-profile sporting events, partying too late at the Manning football camp – enough! May vented on twitter Monday:
So much is wrong with this. Enough what, partying? Yeah, 20-year olds should never party. Last wake up call? Laughable. Shame to the game? Lunacy. That idiotic tweet angered enough folks that they decided to look into Mark May’s college life. And what do you know … Mr. May was arrested at Pitt! And it was significantly worse than Manziel’s 2012 arrest. Via Jay:
May probably got red-faced when he read that. Whoops! We’ve all had them. But May can’t play up the, ‘I didn’t win a Heisman trophy!’ angle because he was a star, too – 1st team All-American his senior year at Pittsburgh. In 1980, he was a 1st round draft pick of the Redskins.
But we’re not done here. Good Bull Hunting discovered that Mark May continued to party hard in the NFL, receiving two DWI arrests, one in 1985 and one in 1990. I’m sure someone will attempt to spin this into, ‘See! Bad decision-making in college carries over to your pro career!’ Perhaps. But that’s not the point here. That’s another post for another day.
The media piling on Manziel for being a college kid is LCD-dumb. Mark May, buy a clue, man.
Why can’t we wait to see if there’s any impact on his on-field game? I can already see the headlines if Texas A&M loses at home to Alabama in two months: Manziel lost because he partied too hard in the offseason and he’s throwing away a bright future in the NFL.
Sigh.
