For most schools, changing head coaches is an awkward, messy and expensive process. Any college football program looking at a transition in the coming years (take notes, Notre Dame, this WILL be on the test) should follow the example Oregon set this offseason. The Ducks’ transition was so seemless that linebacker Reggie Carter, UCLA’s player representative at Pac-10 media day, had to be reminded that Chip Kelly was the new coach, even after running into him in the hall. The beginning of the 2008 season must have made Redskins fans feel as though they had slipped into Bizarro world. The team coasted to a 6-2 start and everything seemed to be running smoothly under Jim Zorn.
