For some reason, Shane Battier has decided to grow a mustache. Yahoo! appears to have the first high-quality image of the facial hair. The Blowtorch had a lower-quality picture a few days back, but we decided to ignore the original until further proof surfaced. Blurry photographs have fooled people in the past. Rumors that Battier had to grow the mustache as the result of a gambling debt owed to The Sports Hernia are unconfirmed.
“The American Mustache Institute (AMI) will name the 2009 Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year, recognizing the person best contributing to the Mustached American way of life over the past year, on Oct. 30.”
Vote for Oklahoma backup QB Landry Jones. He’s a 20-year high school legend from New Mexico with a famous mustache. Clay Zavada of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Brendan Ryan of the St. Louis Cardinals are also in contention. [AMI]
