Almost Forgot The Masters

The lasting story of this year’s Masters? Tiger Woods can’t come from behind to win. (A tradition unlike any other – ha!)

Ah…anyway, Tiger just missed a birdie putt that could have really put the heat on Trevor Immelman. Immelman, it should be mentioned, made a huge putt from the fringe to save par on the 11th. Man, if Tiger had made his shot and Trevor had missed his…

I’m kidding. It does get a little annoying that everything has to center around Tiger. But what do you expect – he’s the only golfer that the most casual fan knows and maybe even cares about.

Besides, he’s got a very attractive wife. My mother always complained that Tiger wouldn’t ever win again once he got married. For some reason she thought a woman would be too much of a distraction and my mother expects much more of Tiger Woods. Me? I say he made the right choice.

The man does have his own Gatorade bottle after all. So we watch Trever Immelman’s inevitable march to victory and your favorite players come into the clubhouse feel free to post links to their hot Golf WAGs in the comments. That way, when its all over, we’ll be able to properly salute the victor.

Update: Tiger just bogeyed.

Checking In With The Masters

I haven’t been watching – have you? I’ve been out in the beautiful Upstate New York sun playing jarts. I almost won a Big Bear. See, when my friends and I gamble, we bet cheap booze like Big Bear malt liquor. Betting money is for people with “real jobs” and “careers.” Not for bloggers and the guys that hang out with bloggers.

A quick look at the Leaderboard tells me that Brandt Snedecker is the leader at -8. Paul Casey, Steve Flesch and Tervor Immelman are all right there at -7. And the only person casual golf fans care about is currently tied for 9th at -3.

Our friend Jason Sobel is still live blogging today despite the fact that only geeks like us are chained to their computers instead of actually watching on CBS and listening to the soothing sounds of Jim Nantz. I’ll have to read quick to catch up on all the links-related-limericks I missed while I was outside breathing fresh air.

Now as the evening approaches I’m going to grab something to eat a do a couple interviews with ESPNEWS. As interesting things happen, I’ll update all Masters coverage in this post. Feel free to hang out in the comments and discuss the merits of terrible booze. Read the rest of this entry »

Masters Live-Blog-Live-Blog (Seriously): Round 2

Welcome back! For the second day in a row we’re going to join ESPN’s Jason Sobel’s Masters Live Blog, already in progress.

Yesterday’s experiment in meta was a rousing success as we were even acknowledged by Jason himself. (At 2:07pm) Hopefully, today’s live-blog will be even more exciting! If you followed along yesterday (Round 1 LBLB) you know that means more camera phones in the men’s room and of course, more of Ian Poulter’s undeniable sex appeal.

As usual you can e-mail any questions about the live blog to me at alumnigonzo@gmail.com. If you have any questions about the actual Masters you’d be better served e-mailing Sobel directly at mastersblog@gmail.com. Finally, if you have any questions about Melrose Place reruns e-mail The Big Lead. Now lets get to it! Read the rest of this entry »

Masters Live-Blog-Live-Blog (Seriously): Round 1

Since everyone loves golf and we’re all stuck in our offices today, a live-blog of the Masters would be wonderful. Unfortunately, despite numerous pleas on my part, TBL refused to send me [all-expenses-paid] to Augusta this week. Therefore, I have to rely on someone who actually got to attend: ESPN’s Jason Sobel. If you want to read about what’s actually happening in the tournament you can check out his coverage over at the Dot-Com, but if you want to see me make bad jokes and puns that just aren’t up to par (!) check in here. I’ll be updating semi-regularly depending on what Sobel writes. Read the rest of this entry »
