College Football 2011 Picks: Week Eight

Had an off week before a special event last week, with a 2-3 performance dropping me to 21-12-2 on the year. Hoping to regain some momentum this week.

Kansas State (-11) at Kansas: Kansas State runs the ball. Kansas is dead last in the country against the run, allowing 6.82 yards per carry against FBS schools. Only Western Michigan, is within a yard of them. It’s a rivalry game, but that level of stink is hard to overcome.

Northwestern (+4.5) vs. Penn State: Penn State is 1-8 in its last nine against the spread. Northwestern will have a chip after blowing a lead last year. Persa will have a chip after being overlooked during recruiting. I’ve no faith in Penn State’s offense on the road.

Stanford (-20) vs. Washington: Stanford hasn’t played anyone good. Washington hasn’t beaten anyone good. I like the Huskies, but I would worry about their defense in this one. Andrew Luck and Co. are eviscerating teams right now and in bet until proven otherwise mode. They are the only team in the country that is undefeated against the spread.

Purdue (+4) vs. Illinois: Purdue has a decent defense. Illinois has not looked convincing against a soft schedule and turns the ball over consistently and frequently (13 times in last five games). They are coached by Ron Zook.

Alabama (-29.5) vs. Tennessee: Tennessee has a one-dimensional offense. That dimension is controlled by Matt Simms and missing Justin Hunter. The Volunteers are 81st in the country against the run.
