Now before thousands of painfully reactive Yankee fans jump off a cliff over losing an exciting young prospect who raked the moment he was called up last year, they should attempt to sooth themselves knowing this was a good trade with a lot of value for both sides, as both teams received something they needed. The Yankees also have a lot of depth in the minors at catcher, Austin Romine for one, so this is far from the devastating loss that many dramatic souls will somehow perceive this to be. Breathe in, breathe out.

Brian Cashman also signed free agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year $10 million contract last night, pushing A.J. Burnett, Freddy Garcia and Phil Hughes into a three-man cat fight for the fifth spot.

So a starting rotation that was looking rather dicey suddenly has some cushy depth. Yes, Brian Cashman has endless resources, but he’s a suave little fellow.
