Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquaio Talked On The Telephone! [UPDATE]

I don’t know how many times I can say it, but “this is it.” Both fighters say they want the fight. Mayweather appears to really want the fight – so much so that he has done everything but schedule a Sopranos-style sit down with Pacquaio. The only person that doesn’t want the fight appears to be Bob Arum.

There are roughly 106 days until May 5th, which is closing in on the edge of when a full training camp for a prize fight should begin. Mayweather wants to fight on Cinco de Mayo. Manny Pacquiao is not scheduled to fight anyone anytime soon. This is the fight that everyone wants to see and it is worth tens upon tens of millions of dollars for both fighters. It all seems so simple. Stupid Bob Arum.

[UPDATE: According to BoxingScene.com Mayweather said the following on SportsCenter this morning:]

“He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen, but what can happen is you can make more money fighting me than you have made in your career. I also let him know I’m in control on my side but he needs to get on the same page as his promoter so we can make this fight happen.”

So.. yay! Two boxers had a phone conversation. I guess we can forget about this until Floyd gets out of jail.
