UFC on FX 2 Weigh-Ins and Preview

The UFC has a rare Friday evening card tomorrow. The fights are live from Australia and free on FX and FuelTV. The UFC was nice enough to run the weigh-ins through YouTube, so you can watch grown men stand on a scale in their underwear right here at 10pm Eastern.

The UFC’s flyweight division debuts tomorrow with the opening round of a 4-man tournament to determine the organization’s first ever 125-pound champion. The tournament is set up for an electrifying championship bout between Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson somewhere down the line. There’s a chance that Yashuhiro Urushitani or Ian McCall could spoil the fun, but both are sizable underdogs. Bovada (formerly Bodog) has Johnson as a -325 favorite, but that’s nothing compared to Benavidez’s absurd -900 line. Those are odds that would make Anderson Silva blush.

The main event of the evening is a welterweight match up between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann. Alves had lost 3 of 4 fights before submitting Papy Abedi in under a round at UFC 137 in November. It was the first time in a long time that Alves had looked like the 170-pound monster who once earned a title fight against Georges St. Pierre way back at UFC 100. Kampmann had dropped two fights before earning a decision victory over Rick Story at UFC 138. Winner gets a little momentum and some much needed juice as he tries to climb back towards the top of the division.

In the main card’s first fight, TUF 11 winner, Court McGee tries to keep his feel-good story going as he takes on Constantinos Philippou. Philippou has won two straight fights in the UFC after losing an elimination bout that would have gotten him into the TUF house. The biggest question for McGee is how long will his beard be?
