Notre Dame, ranked third in the Cincinnati Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches’ poll, led seventh-ranked Highlands 6-0 after three quarters in a contest that had officials wondering if this was the lowest scoring game in Ninth Region girls’ basketball tournament history. They could not confirm it, but the contest was definitely an anomaly.

What say you, worst basketball coach in the world?

“Tonight was all strategy for us to make it a close game,” Highlands coach Jaime Richey said. “We lost big when we tried to run with them. We had to come up with the best possible way to win the game, so we slowed it down.”

And the other coach? More than happy to rest his players during the game.

“I didn’t want to pick up the pace because I didn’t see the need for the girls to run around,” Notre Dame coach Nicole Levandusky said of the Bluebirds stalling strategy. “I thought we might as well stay back and wait on them to play.”

And wait they did.

The Bluebirds didn’t budge. Fisse held the ball for two minutes on Highlands’ first possession. Voskuhl scored the first points with a basket at the 2:30 mark and Highlands held the ball for two more minutes. Fisse held the ball for three minutes to begin the second quarter, but the Pandas’ Hannah Thelen hit a basket to make it 4-0.

Earlier today I tweeted (follow me!) that Obama had lied about enjoying watching his daughter play basketball. Games like this would make parents pine for the halcyon days of watching girls missing 10 layups every trip down the floor.
