The Joe Paterno statue will fall. According to the NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones, the Joe Paterno statue will be taken down this weekend. It’s been less than a week since Penn State said they had no plans to take down the statue.
The artist who sculpted the statue of JoePa recently said that Penn State should wait before making a final decision on the fate of the statue.
“I think we should all wait on it. Put a cover on it,” Angelo Di Maria said. “Let’s see how everyone feels in six months … or a year.”
Somehow, I don’t think that would have been in the best interest of the statue. The few students who showed up to protect the statue from the people who paid for a banner to fly over campus threatening the statue’s safety must be crushed. If you’re curious why someone on the NFL beat would have this story first, Jones previously covered Penn State football for the Centre Daily Times.
Am told that Penn State plans to take down the Paterno statue this weekend.

[UPDATE: A Penn State board member says there has been no such vote about taking down the statue.]
