The case investigating the murder-suicide of Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins has been closed, and the police record is now public, with additional details from the Kansas City Star. Among those details is that Jovan Belcher had sent a text to what is described as “a secret girlfriend” less than two months earlier saying he would shoot Kasandra Perkins if she did not leave him alone. (It is not clear whether this is the same girlfriend he was with the night before the murder).

Belcher also told the other “secret” girlfriend that Perkins knew how to push his buttons and that she had threatened to take his money and their child if they split.

Additional details about the relationship were also revealed, including that Belcher had blamed his absence at a team meeting on Perkins a couple of weeks earlier, claiming that she had stayed out late and he had to watch his child.

The rest of the reports are consistent with what has come out in bits in the days that followed, from the number of times that Perkins was shot by Belcher (one bullet went through to the basement, the final report says), to his journey to Arrowhead. Once there, Romeo Crennel pleaded with him before Belcher killed himself, “You’re taking the easy way out!”
