David Beckham has found a club. The England legend will join Zlatan Ibrahimovic at petro-fueled superclub Paris St. Germain. Contract details have not emerged. [UPDATE: Beckham won’t play for a salary. It’ll go to a charity.] It may be similar to the $12 million per year deal he turned down last year. The 37-year-old still has some commercial pull. He reportedly had offers from clubs in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

The move makes sense for Beckham. PSG can pay him. It’s a short commute by plane, train or personal jetpack to London. He gets to play in the Champions League. He gets to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti, who brought him in on loan to AC Milan.

Signing Beckham presents an odd juxtaposition. It comes amidst an exodus of top players leaving French clubs for lesser destinations abroad, presumably in anticipation of some form of Hollande’s super tax on the wealthy going into effect.
