Boston Red Sox OF Prospect Bryce Brentz Shot Himself While Cleaning His Gun

He likes his guns clean. He also probably prefers they don’t go off unexpectedly.

Brentz suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound during some  firearm maintenance a few weeks ago. The bullet went into his leg and out the other side, according to Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington.

"“It’s something he’s going to recover from and be fine, and it won’t affect his baseball career,” Cherington said. “I think he understands he got lucky. It’s a serious thing. He’s got to be careful.”"

Brentz won’t be ready when the team’s camp opens later this week, but there’s hope he’ll be healthy before the end of spring training.

The 24-year-old made it to Triple-A Pawtucket last year and is the N0. 8 prospect in the Boston organization according to Baseball America.
