Marc Staal of the New York Rangers took a slap shot directly in the face Tuesday night. Seconds after a face-off, Staal had no time to react when a Kimmo Timonen shot was deflected and hit him directly in the right eye. Staal was not wearing a visor on his helmet which quickly became a hot topic. Visors are currently a “personal choice” for professional hockey players. You may recall that helmets were also option at one time. Someone needs to explain to hockey players that they aren’t pussies if they try to protect themselves while they skate around on broken bones with some teeth missing.
