Steven Jackson is close to signing with the Green Bay Packers, according to Rob Demovsky of the Press Gazette. [UPDATE: Like Adam Schefter, we thought it was a done deal. It’s not.]

Jackson hopes to follow in the footsteps of another former St. Louis running back, Ottis Anderson, who moved on to the New York Giants after the age of the 30 and played a role in a Super Bowl contender. This is a big move for the Packers, who have been very deficient in the running game the last two years. I have a feeling that Steven Jackson is going to like playing in an offense that will put up points and yards through the air, after playing on teams that went 44-99-1 during his time in St. Louis. Love the move given Green Bay’s situation at running back, and in the short term, I look for Jackson to have a good year in 2013.
