Conference administrators went to the mattresses to protect the integrity of The Rose Bowl Game Presented By VIZIO. But, unlike the All State Sugar Bowl, the Discover Orange Bowl, the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and the AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic, college football’s championship game will not sully itself with an official sponsor.

Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby says it to be “more like the Masters than NASCAR.” Entitled men in blazers shaking hands and longing for the bygone days when free labor was a given. As were the sports writers ready to write paeans about its purity. Perhaps we can get some soothing piano music in the background?

The name, according to BCS commissioner Bill Hancock, will not be “too cutesy,” lest you think college football had gone fey. You can also rest assured. Stats will not creep into this. The playoff will be hashed out in time-honored, American fashion: rich white guys dictating from an opaque conference room.
