J.A. Happ, the Blue Jays pitcher who was hit in the head by a line drive Tuesday night and rushed to a Tampa hospital, issued the following statement this morning:

"“I’m in good spirits. I definitely appreciate the support of the baseball community. It’s been overwhelming, the messages and kind words I’ve been getting. I just want to thank everyone for that. And I look forward to getting back out there soon.”"

The Bayfront Medical Center has yet to release any specifics on the injuries to Happ other than he’s in “good condition,” but the tenor of his statement, plus the fact he’s talking, both appear to be positive signs. It’s too early to set a timetable for his return to the team and mound.

ESPN reported Happ is expected to be released from the hospital sometime on Wednesday.

The 13-21 last-place Blue Jays will take any good news they can at this point. [Via Tampa Bay Times]
