You know you’re living high on the hog when reserve outfielder Jonny Gomes is hitting walk-off home runs for you and kicking his helmet like an NFL punter as he closes in on home plate. Gomes blasted a two-run shot off Joel Peralta in the bottom of the ninth propelled the Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Rays Tuesday at Fenway, sweeping a day-night double-header in the process. Boston is now an American League-best 15 games over .500.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick loves to experiment with players at different positions, ie the Tim Tebow signing last week. Perhaps he can sign Gomes to be a hybrid punter/special teams gunner/clubhouse guy. Or maybe tight end, as New England might be in the market with one of their stars continually going under the knife and the other in potential legal hot water.
