Doc Rivers is heading to Bill Simmons new LA team, the Clippers, to be the head coach after the week long soap opera was concluded. The Clippers will give up their 2015 first round pick in exchange for Rivers, pending league approval. That is not a given, with a trade involving a head coach, but if it doesn’t go through, oh boy.

Chris Paul remaining in Los Angeles must be tied to this move, and we already saw the Commissioner get involved in a Paul trade before he got to the Clippers. Rivers had to be out in Boston after all the rumors were flying anyway, so all of the last week was just posturing. RJ Bell says the Clippers have gone from 15 to 1 to 10 to 1 with this news. That may not all be a direct Doc Rivers effect; it also probably accounts for increased optimism in the state of the Clippers roster remaining as a contender.
