Bill Raftery, the legendary college basketball announcer who has been calling games on ESPN – primarily, Big Monday – for years, is leaving for Fox Sports 1. The move was announced via press release moments ago. Raftery will still call NCAA tournament games for CBS – something he’s done for over 20 years now – but he will now be calling Big East games on Fox Sports 1 with Gus Johnson.
“We completely understand his interest in remaining associated with the core group of schools that he’s been part of for 30+ years, and we wish him the absolute best in his next chapter and thank him for his incredible contributions to ESPN,” an ESPN spokesman told me. [H/T: Eric]
