Norwegian Soccer Club Accuses Rival Fans of Beheading Statue Outside Stadium

It doesn’t get any bigger than Norwegian club soccer in late June, does it? Anyways, Lillestrom and Valerenga are set to meet this weekend. The clash figures to take on added importance after the statue outside Lillestrom’s ground of club legend Tom Lund was beheaded. Lillestrom fans are accusing Valerenga ultras of doing the nefarious deed.

Naturally, whenever a statue is beheaded, the mind drifts to “The Telltale Head” from the first season of “The Simpsons.” You remember that episode, right? Bart cuts off the head of Jebediah Springfield to impress Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney. Sure you do. Homer still sounded like Walter Matthau. There were a lot of pitchforks and torches as the Springfield became an angry mob. (Look, I’ll admit, some of those early episodes from the first season or so are tough to re-watch.)

Also remember: in the land of Black Metal, shit gets and stays real, even statues.
