Jozy Altidore made his debut for Sunderland Wednesday in a match against fellow Premier League side Tottenham in a preseason tournament in Hong Kong. It proved to be a fruitful debut for the American striker as he set up a goal for teammate Cabral in the first half (0:30 mark of the video above). If you watch, it was an instinctive pass by Altidore after stealing the ball to hit a teammate running in stride toward goal. According to match reports Altidore had two good chances to score, including a late chance denied by countryman Brad Friedel.

One preseason game won’t allay fears about Altidore and his return to England, however Sunderland are a club is the process of undergoing a major facelift. Altidore looks to be a strong part of manager Paolo Di Canio’s plans, which also included recruiting Italian international winger Emanuele Giaccherini to the Stadium of Light.

It would be an outright shock if Altidore’s second go-around in the Premier League mirrored his first stint in 2009-10 when he scored but one goal in 28 appearances for Hull City.
