Jon Jay swung and missed on an 0-2 count during Wednesday’s Pirates – Cardinals game. Then, things got weird. The ball hit Jay in the foot and bounced away from Pittsburgh catcher Russell Martin. The Pirates and the announcers thought it was a foul ball, but Jay headed to first knowing he had whiffed. While the Pirates argued the call, Jay rounded first and headed for second, sliding in safely ahead of Martin’s throw. The play wasn’t ruled K-HBP-2B, but it should have been.
