Miguel Cabrera has Big Numbers and a Big Personality

Miguel Cabrera is making a run at another the Triple Crown. He leads the American League in average (.357), RBIs (130) and trails Baltimore’s Chris Davis 46-43 in home runs. Few baseball fans outside of Detroit probably realize the Big Man, as he’s called on radio broadcasts by Jim Price, has a big ol’ personality to match his offensive stats.

Often he’ll interact like an overgrown kid with fans seated on the third base line, or he’ll grin half-menacingly at opponents who try to bunt on him. He’s famous in some circles for asking for an appeal on check swings himself, rather than letting the home plate umpire do it. In short, Cabrera is an entertainer in every sense of the word.

Maybe we don’t get to see this personality that often nationally, but Cabrera showed it off Tuesday when he went on MLB’s “Intentional Talk” with Kevin Millar and Chris Rose.

They talk about the Prince Fielder lookalike and Cabrera’s flashes some dance moves. Cabrera’s response when asked if he’d every smoked a cigarette with Jim Leyland toward the end of the clip is priceless.
