The skywriter who wrote “GO BLUE” over Spartan Stadium was paid by the Michigan Athletic Department, according to MLive.com. A Michigan spokesman admitted the department paid for the skywriting, but denied that Spartan Stadium was the intended target. East Lansing just happened to be the random part of “Southeastern Michigan” chosen, apparently.

Guessing Michigan AD Dave Brandon would file this advertisement, which cost thousands of dollars, under “required expenses and commensurate capital costs.” Some might suggest Michigan was already getting its comeuppance as this message was being written. But perhaps Michigan’s athletic department could atone by matching the generosity Spartan fans showed in lieu of retaliation.
