Josh Freeman Chooses to Sign With the Vikings, Creating a Crowded Quarterback Situation

Josh Freeman has chosen to sign with the Minnesota Vikings after being released by Tampa Bay last week, as reported on Sunday Night Football and also by Freeman’s agent. Freeman reportedly had interest from multiple teams, with the Vikings coming out on top. Obviously, Minnesota’s interest represents trouble for Christian Ponder, as Freeman is signed to only a one year prove it deal and might get a chance to earn a longer stay.

To say that Freeman and Ponder are polar opposites would be pretty safe. Freeman has a big arm but needs to focus on mechanics and consistency. He does have the ability to stretch the field, though. Ponder, meanwhile, has completed a high percentage of passes but is terrible throwing downfield. Matt Cassel started last week’s game, and Freeman will take a few weeks to get up to speed, but I would guess he gets a chance to start by November.
