Weber Middle School in Port Washington (Long Island) has banned “hard” footballs, baseballs, lacrosse balls and “hard” soccer balls. Also, tag has been banned and cartwheels may only be performed under the supervision of a coach. From CBS New York:

"Port Washington schools Supt. Kathleen Maloney said the change in policy is warranted due to a rash of playground injuries. “Some of these injuries can unintentionally become very serious, so we want to make sure our children have fun, but are also protected,” Maloney said. Without helmets and pads, children are much more susceptible to getting hurt, experts said."

I have no words. As far as I can tell, this is not parody or some sort of comedy sketch. This is a real thing that is happening.
