Asmir Begovic provided the first goalie goal of the 2013-14 Premier League season, scoring Saturday 12 seconds into Stoke City’s match with Southampton. Like most keeper goals, Begovic was aided by a bounce — which split the Southampton defense — and bounced over the head of Artur Boruc. Cue the sad trombone sound effect.

The goal made Begovic Stoke City’s joint top-scorer … with one.

American Tim Howard scored from his own 18-yard box in Everton’s game vs. Bolton in January, 2012. Former U.S. No. 1 Brad Friedel has also scored. Peter Schmeichel and Paul Robinson are the other two keepers to score goals in the Premier League.
