Sunday was a bloody one in college basketball, with three ranked teams losing to three unranked teams. UNC’s loss at home to Belmont was the most shocking. Michigan losing to Iowa State on the road was less surprising.

Led by Fred “The Mayor” Hoiberg, Iowa State nearly stunned Ohio State in last year’s NCAA tournament, and figures to be competitive again this year. The Cyclones might be the 3rd best team in the Big 12 after Kansas and Oklahoma State. The 77-70 win over Michigan proved the Cyclones will be formidable at home once again.

Michigan lost two starters to the 1st round of the NBA draft, and early-season struggles shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Wolverines could lose to Duke and Arizona early next month.

But can we talk about sophomore Mitch McGary for a moment? Remember, he’s a 6-foot-10 power forward who weighs about 250. The agility, ball handling and athletic ability for a man his size are what have NBA scouts drooling.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the rapidly improving Nik Stauskas! He can do more than just shoot (20 points, six assists, four rebounds).
