Steve Smith, Aqib Talib Renewed Acquaintances on MNF

Steve Smith caught a 42-yard pass early in the first quarter matched up against Patriots’ cornerback Aqib Talib. It only went downhill from there for Talib, who decided to scrap with Smith following a crossing route.

That’s never a good idea.

Smith, now 34 and playing in the NFL since 2001, is renowned for getting under the skin of opposing corners. Talib lasted barely a series before getting sucked into Smith’s game. Talib picked up a 15-yard penalty for his efforts. (It’s hard to believe opponents still let Smith get to them, which must put him in consideration for first ballot Trash Talk Hall of Fame member.)

A few plays following the initial scrap, Talib again got in Smith’s face. The duo matched up against each other while Talib played in Tampa, so perhaps that has something to do with tonight’s renewed hostilities.

Unless this escalates Talib got off a lot easier than Janoris Jenkins, who incurred the wrath of Smith’s game earlier this season.

Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newtown enjoyed it.
