Matt Besler is Getting Married, Sporting KC Fans Bought All the Gifts at the Registry

Matt Besler is having himself a very nice little December. Last weekend he lifted the MLS Cup with Sporting Kansas City, his hometown team, after defeating Real Salt Lake in penalties. On Saturday he’s set to marry his fiance Amanda.

Turns out Sporting fans have purchased almost all the gifts on the wedding registry at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Crate & Barrel.

All-in-all, it’s been an amazing turnaround for professional soccer. It wasn’t very long ago the team, then known as the Wizards (nee Wiz) were playing in an almost completely empty Arrowhead Stadium. Now rebranded as Sporting Kansas City, the club’s been one of this decade’s success stories with Sporting Park a go-to soccer destination for both MLS and the U.S. National Team.

Although rare, it’s still pretty cool to see that fans and professional athletes can still interact on this sort of level. Besler is still penciled in as one of the U.S. starting defenders next to sax-enthuaist Omar Gonzalez in the middle for next summer’s World Cup. [H/T MLS]
