George Zimmerman vs. DMX in Celebrity Boxing Match of the Century

George Zimmerman will fight DMX in a “Celebrity Boxing” match later this year. Yes, this is a real thing. Two pillars of the media community — CNN and TMZ — confirmed the news and splashed it across their homepages Wednesday morning. Details of the three-round fight will be revealed next Wednesday by promoter Damon Feldman.

Zimmerman gained infamy for shooting and killing unarmed Florida teenager Trayvon Martin in February 2012. He was tried for murder, but found not guilty last summer. There were no shortage of applicants eager to fight Zimmerman, as Feldman said over 15,000 people applied.

The honors go to DMX, who told TMZ:

"“I am going to beat the living f**k out him … I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f**k him right up.”"

These sentiments should come as no surprise from a man who once famously told his audience, “I’m not a nice person.”

In the late 1990s and into the early 2000s DMX was one of the top MCs in the rap game. He sold multi-platinum albums with his Ruff Ryders crew and appeared in movies — often riding an ATV — with Hollywood stars such as Jet Li. Lately, though, he’s fallen on hard times with numerous arrests and even an appearance on VH1’s Couples Therapy, where he broke down in tears.

DMX better enter the ring to his classic banger, “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” because this celebrity boxing match is most assuredly “not a game.”

As absurd as this whole thing sounds, it wouldn’t be a shock if loads of people tune in to watch — at least more than previous celebrity boxing matches like Screech vs. Horshack in 2002.
