A "Patriotic" Band Delivered an Abysmal National Anthem Before Race at Daytona

Madison Rising has anointed itself “America’s most patriotic rock band,” so it made sense to see them get the nod to perform The Star-Spangled Banner before this afternoon’s Nationwide Series race at Daytona. But once they started the performance, not much of anything made sense.

The rockers plowed through an unforgettable rendition of our national anthem. And that’s not a compliment.

The beginning wasn’t so bad, but the awfulness built to a crescendo before exploding in magnificent fashion. Not even Charley Steiner could find the humor in this dud.

Watching the assembled crowd in Daytona, including active military members, try to stomach this display is one step beyond awkward. Anyone captured on camera not visibly retching deserves applause.

It could be some time before Madison Rising gets another shot at a national anthem. Their made-up top spot in the made-up patriotism rankings could be in serious jeopardy.
