Brent Musburger’s future with ESPN got a little clearer today. The long-time announcer–who we recently featured in a visit to Big Monday Big 12 basketball–will be moving to the SEC Network to call games with Jesse Palmer, according to an ESPN press release.

Musburger’s contract was up after this basketball season, and there was uncertainty and speculation about what his role would be going forward, as the BCS playoffs begin next year. This site discussed his contract situation, and how one of the issues was promoting Chris Fowler and Rece Davis to larger roles. Musburger will remain on Big 12 basketball coverage as part of his contract extension. This move allows Musburger to remain in a prominent football role (the launch of SEC coverage and the network will be presumably the cornerstone of ESPN’s football package). Not stated is what will happen with the BCS Championship Game broadcast, but it appears that the Big Lead’s report on Fowler or Davis moving up may come to fruition.
