Steve Smith was officially released by the Carolina Panthers — the only team he’s played for during his 13-year career. The veteran wide receiver handled the release professionally except for this soundbite on WFNZ radio when he promised (with a laugh)blood and guts everywhere” if he plays against his former team at Bank of America Stadium.

Given Smith’s propensity for trash talk and annihilating opponents who try to cross him — ask Janoris Jenkins — the Panthers should be worried. Very worried. Earlier today, Albert Breer said to keep an eye on the Ravens as a potential suitor, but could Smith be so apoplectic at the way the Panthers treated him that he’d target another team in the NFC South?

Smith’s release has already claimed one victim: Voth’s phone battery.
