Vince Wilfork has asked the New England Patriots for his release after 10 years with the team, per Ian Rapoport. The NFL Network reporter notes that the team had previously asked the veteran defensive lineman to restructure his deal, which was a “non-starter”. As presently constituted, Wilfork’s contract calls for him a $7.5 million base salary with a $11.6 million cap figure.

Wilfork tore his achilles in late September of last season, and it’s currently unknown to what extent he will recover and be productive. He turns 33 in November. That being said, if New England grants his request — a big if — there are a lot of teams in the league who are weak along the line that would potentially be interested.
