David Villa is on his way to MLS next season to play for the expansion New York City FC. Playing in his final World Cup game, the Spanish goal-scoring ace added a pretty nice goal to his tally in Monday’s meaningless game vs. Australia, breaking a 0-0 deadlock with a crafty back-heel finish. If it’s his last international goal, it’s a good way to go out.

Villa is only 32 and will be 33 when NYCFC begins play. Maybe with plays like this he’ll get more people to take the train out to Yankee Stadium to watch the new team play. Maybe?

Villa announced his international retirement prior to the World Cup. The Euro 2008 Golden Boot winner was in tears when he left the field.
