Rafa Marquez's Header Put Mexico on the Brink of the World Cup Knockout Rounds
By Mike Cardillo
Rafa Marquez rose to the occasion and knocked in a header from a corner kick to give Mexico a much-needed 1-0 lead over Croatia . Andres Guardado scored minutes later to make it 2-0 and ensure El Tri would advance into the knockout rounds. It rendered the missed handball called on Darijo Snra a bit of an afterthought.
Mexico is on track to play in the Round of 16 against the Netherlands on Sunday. (Of course, Mexico wouldn’t even be in Brazil if not from a big assist from American Graham Zusi. However I suppose by now that’s a moot point.)
Miguel Herrera liked what he saw regardless.
