Joe Philbin’s son, Matthew (pictured to the right), is charged with a third-degree felony — failing to stop and render aid — stemming from an incident in Austin, Texas this past March. As detailed by the Miami Herald, the younger Philbin, a 26-year-old U.S. Army first lieutenant, allegedly went the wrong direction on a one-way street and crashed into another vehicle. The other driver, a 22-year-old woman, sustained unspecified neck, head, and arm injuries.

Philbin allegedly left the scene of the crash:

Detective Drake said that Philbin’s attorney asked him to defer the investigation because the lieutenant was about to be promoted to captain; when the victim’s father discovered this, he reportedly called Fort Hood and told them about the incident. The Miami Dolphins declined to provide comment on the matter.
