Chile lost to Brazil in the Round of 16. Mauricio Pinilla hit the crossbar in the 119th minute. Monday, Pinilla got a tattoo to commemorate the moment. Yeah. Below the goal are the words, “One centimetre from glory.” That’s right, it’s the real life equivalent of Gordon Bombay’s “a quarter of an inch.” If only Pinilla had a young Chilean footballer there to remind him that a centimtre higher and he would have missed completely. Then maybe he wouldn’t have a tattoo commemorating one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life.
