Derek Holland, the injured Rangers southpaw is a humorous sort. Remember this is the man who once live-tweeted his displeasure about getting kicked out of a Counting Crowes concert and showed up at the MLB Fan Cave decked out in a Dumb & Dumber tuxedo.
Let it be known, for the record, Holland and the rest of the Texas bullpen are fans of the Farrelly brothers style of comedy. Here’s Holland telling KRLD-FM’s about their two favorite bullpen games: “Pink Eye” and “Fart Bottle Roulette.” (The extremely highbrow quotes via the Dallas Morning News.)
“Basically, there are two games. One is called pink eye. That is when you just fart in somebody’s face and they can’t flinch. If they move, there is a penalty for it. This all came from Mark Lowe. ‘Fart Bottle Roulette’ is when you get a bunch of little water bottles, fart into one of them, put them in a bag, shuffle it, and than watch everybody’s reaction. Everybody opens a bottle one by one and it’s the most nerve-wracking thing every because you really don’t want that bottle.”
Holland says it went on between innings and he’s unsure if they still play it.
I’ll have to go on the record here and say that I’m shocked by this. All my life I was under the impression Major League Baseball players discussed the novels of Marcel Proust or latest NPR podcast during lulls in the action.
Fart Bottle Roulette? Who knew? Guess you have to pass, (eye roll) time somehow.
Joking aside. Holland sounds like a good dude who spent a couple hours signing autographs and hanging out with fans.
